Instruments of uncommon authority, built entirely by the hands that conceived them.
Our instruments are the result of a singular, uncompromising vision: to create basses capable of meeting the highest professional demands, without distraction, without excess, and without compromise.
From the beginning, our focus has never been on production volume. It has been on refinement—developing instruments with exceptional tonal clarity, structural integrity, and complete reliability. Every design decision is guided by experience and a disciplined understanding of what serious musicians require from their instrument.
New York Bass Works operates without production tiers or delegated assembly. Every instrument is built start to finish by the company’s founder and sole craftsman. There is no separation between design and execution, and no distinction in the level of care or attention given to any instrument. Each bass reflects complete authorship, ensuring that the standards, judgment, and intent behind its design are carried through without compromise.
This consistency has earned the trust of musicians performing at the highest levels. New York Bass Works instruments are relied upon by artists performing with Smokey Robinson, The Yellowjackets, and Jill Scott, as well as in the orchestras of major productions on Broadway including Jersey Boys and Operation Mincemeat, among others. These are environments where instruments are judged not by marketing, but by their ability to perform—night after night, without hesitation.
Reputation at this level is earned through discipline, restraint, and an unwavering commitment to the instrument itself.
New York Bass Works remains intentionally small. This allows every instrument to reflect a clear and consistent standard, free from the compromises that often accompany scale. Our role is not to produce in volume, but to build instruments that endure—musically, structurally, and professionally.
We do not build for volume.
We build for permanence.

Every New York Bass Works instrument reflects a singular responsibility: to be worthy of the musicians who depend on it.
"The threshold of your instrument should always be just beyond your grasp."
David Segal & David Beasley
